Airport Operations Center, Aspen, Colorado

The project’s sensitive view exposures include a public roadway on one side and a passenger air terminal and resort community, entry road on the other. The Office/Administration and Employee Housing elements present a smaller scale, vernacular image to the designated view corridor along the public street side.

The large scale, emergency-response vehicle and snow removal equipment bays were partially buried in a hillside, with an earthen, xeriscaped roof. Many other sustainable energy features were incorporated into the facility, including skylids, daylighting clerestories, cementitious siding and cultured stone veneer, high efficiency lighting, mechanical and plumbing systems.
